Silver Corrosion Bath

1. Scope: The apparatus will be used to determine silver strip corrosion of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) as per ASTM D-4636/ IP-227 methods.

2. Apparatus: The Silver Strip Corrosion Test Apparatus will consist of following items which should be compatible with each other:

Test Tube & Cold Finger Condenser: Made from heat resistant Borosilicate glass. Tube capacity 350 ml without condenser in place, with B-45 joint I/C ground socket and cold finger condenser with B-45 joint I/C ground socket and cold finger condenser with B-45 cone and glass hook at bottom to suspend glass cradle. Test tube is to be made from heat resistant amber colored glass.

Constant Temperature Bath:

i. Construction: Constant Temperature bath should be double walled. Inner Chamber should be made from stainless steel while the outer chamber made of galvanized iron, painted with powder coated paint or from stainless steel. The top stainless-steel lid should have 4 holes through which the test bombs can be lowered in to the bath. Concentric rings should be provided to cover the holes when not in use with a Knob for ease of lifting. The bath should have suitable support to hold the 4 test bombs or test tubes in vertical position and the depth of the bath should be enough to immerse the test bombs/ test tube & cradle completely. An electric stirrer should be fitted in the bath to provide uniform temperature. Water / other liquid in the bath are to be heated by 2 heating rods of at least 1 KW capacity each

ii. Temperature Control: The temperature of the constant temperature bath is to be controlled by digital controller cum indicator and should have a PT-100 sensor of accuracy + 0.50C. Maximum temperature to be achieved is 100 +10C. The bath should be able to maintain constant temperature of 1000C for duration of the copper strip test i.e. 2 hours and also for 4 hours at 50+10C.

C. Silver Strips: 17mm to 19mm (long); 12.5 mm to 12.7 mm (wide); 2.5 mm to m3.00 mm (thick). Purity 99.9 % (min). Certificate of purity of the silver used for making strips should be provided.

D. Vice for Single strip compatible with Single strip.

E. Glass cradle for above

F. Thermometer: IP-64C: Range -20 to 1020C Graduation 0.20C Calibration certificate traceable to NPL should be provided.

G. Warranty: 12 months for constant temperature bath.

H. Service back-up should be provided by expert service engineers from India I) Silver strip corrosion standard Chart as per ASTM D-4636/ IP-227
